Taiwan Government to subsidize Covid-19 vaccine research!
Taiwan is the closest neighbor to China, the region of Covid-19 outbreak. Though the island country is successful in containing the spread within its borders, there are much bigger risks ahead and Taiwan is preparing to do so. It’s nearly three quarters of 2020 that has been lost with major focus on the pandemic that is haunting the world. There are bigger challenges ahead for all the countries around the world. To name a few challenges are Vaccine Development, Clinical trials, Mass Production, Distribution, Public Vaccination, also development of security measures for future threats. Today, in this blog, we’ll discuss the activities carried out by the Taiwan government to prepare for the challenges ahead.
- The Taiwan Government has allotted funds to Covid-19 research and development.
The Government of Taiwan has earmarked funds to help fund the research and development of a COVID-19 vaccine by Taiwanese companies. Experts from local Food and Drug Administration and National health research Institutes are assisting vaccine developers to assist in legal ways and fast tracking clinical trials. The allotted funds will be utilized by domestic companies for assistance in research and development capabilities. Also a team of medical experts is constituted to handle issues related to patients and medical ethics in clinical trials.
- Taiwan’s first indigenous vaccine to enter trials soon.
An experimental COVID-19 vaccine developed by Taiwanese maker Adimmune Corp. has been given conditional approval to enter human trials. The AdimrSC-2f vaccine (COVID-19 S-protein) vaccine candidate developed by AdImmune Corporation is found eligible for human trials. The Ministry of Health and Welfare is awaiting additional data for the company and once confirmed, the trials will be conducted in association with National Taiwan University Hospital.
- Taiwan closely monitoring International efforts in research and development of Vaccine for Covid-19.
Taiwan is also focussing on mobilizing funds and is monitoring research and development efforts on Covid vaccine around the world. The island country is also assessing options to procure reliable and high quality vaccines for domestic use. Close proximity to China and International movement of people is still a risk that Taiwan cannot ignore and intends to vaccinate all of its population before 2021.
- Government integrating private companies to procure and distribute vaccines.
Taiwan has also started preparing protocols and guidelines to handle mass vaccination in the country that has a population close to 24 million. For successful vaccination, the government is also seeking private effort to ensure that the entire population receives the vaccine in time.
- Taiwan has approved Gilead’s Remdesivir to treat Covid-19.
The Taiwan Government has approved Gilead Sciences’ potential COVID-19 treatment, Remdesivir, to treat the illness caused by the novel coronavirus. Taiwan has joined the list of Countries that have approved use of Gliead’s Remdesivir to treat Covid-19 which include Japan, United States of America, United Kingdom, India and European Union.
- Taiwan CDC working to vaccine its entire population
Taiwan Centre for Disease Control and the Central Epidemic Command Center (CECC) through their Outbreak Observatory is simulating its Mass Vaccination campaign. For the vaccination program, the CECC is closely monitoring and evaluating right options to ensure timely and safe vaccination.
With many bigger challenges awaited by the Government of Taiwan and all across the World, the island country is lauded all across the World for its efficient response to the Covid-19.
